Artist's Statement: |
| "I use painting as a way to add balance to my life, and to create something that hopefully pleases the eye in some way." |
Biography: |
| Kathryn has lived on the West Coast most of her adult life and has always been inspired by what the Island had to offer. For many years she thought she might paint "when she had time". In Campbell River in 1998, Kathryn found the incredible studio of Chris Wootton and finally understood: one makes time to paint, not the other way around. Painters of all walks and talents gathered there weekly, and amidst an eclectic selection of subjects, music and conversation, Kathryn found her muse.
Kathryn left the Island for Vancouver in 2001 where she exhibited happily with the Burnaby Artist’s Guild for 8 years. She returned to her beloved Island in 2009, this time to lovely Victoria. Searching for other artists, Kathryn discovered Studio 30 and became once again connected to the art community. In 2015, Kathryn banded together with a few like-minded artists who wished to paint together, critique each other and to share their work. They became “Platinum Painters, Visual Artists”. To further immerse herself into the Victoria art scene, Kathryn joined SPAC in 2017/18.
Initially a watercolorist, Kathryn has explored acrylic painting and enjoys the “glass free” look. Further exploration led her to finish her watercolours with archive quality fixative, and to wax her creations so they could be mounted without glass. Recently she has expanded into oils.
Primarily, Kathryn exhibits in Victoria with SPAC, Platinum Painters and Studio 30. Her work can also be seen in Sooke Harbour House.
